The hydraulic cylinder is a complex unit that requires constant attention and timely maintenance. However, even with full compliance with the operating conditions, over time, the components and parts of the equipment wear out, there are all sorts of minor malfunctions or accidental problems that can lead to the breakdown of the hydraulic cylinder.

The first and main rule for any failures in the operation of the equipment - always seek help from professionals who can quickly and skillfully conduct a diagnosis and repair the unit so that the problem did not affect other parts of the device and after the repair does not bother the owner of the hydraulic cylinder in the future.

It should be remembered that even a small, at first glance, malfunction, can lead to damage to various parts of the unit, connected to the problem part mechanically or through the exchange of fluids. Attempts to repair the hydraulic cylinder on your own pose a serious danger to the further operation of the device. Such attempts may result in serious damage up to complete failure of the equipment.

A basic list of problems

Rod wear

The rods are constantly subjected to high loads and are in direct contact with aggressive media. Consequently, the risk of their failure is quite high. They are subjected to scoring, sinks and in some cases deformation (which can lead to additional failures).

There are two ways to solve the problem: cleaning the stem with abrasive or chemical reactions (etching or solution based on orthophosphoric acid), or replacing the stem. The latter is the only solution for deformations.

To increase the reliability of the equipment after repair, some companies offer additional coating with iron-nickel alloy, protecting the stem from subsequent corrosion. In many cases, such a solution is economically justified, as the applied coating serves as additional protection against subsequent damage and, therefore, a guarantee of smooth operation of the equipment in the future.

Problems with pipelines

The fluid supply keeps the hydraulic cylinder running. Obstructions in the path of the supplied fluids lead to equipment failure or dirt particles getting on other elements, which inevitably leads to their deterioration.

Pipeline cleaning, despite its apparent ease, is one of the most labor-intensive repair operations. The integrity of pipes is checked several times, and different types of contaminants are removed depending on their composition: grease - degreasing and pickling, descaling - blasting or tapping.

Problems with the cartridge case

Cracks, nicks, and scratches may appear on the cylinder liner after prolonged use. In case of cracks, the sleeve requires immediate replacement, and other defects are eliminated depending on the severity of the problem.

In any case, hydraulic cylinder repair is a complex technological process, which should be carried out in stages and in compliance with certain rules.

Rules of repair

  • complete unit before repair
  • external cleaning
  • complete disassembly and inspection of all parts of the hydraulic cylinder
  • replacement of all oil seals, rubber rings, lock washers and spring washers, and all other gaskets and non-metallic gaskets regardless of their condition or degree of wear.

After repairs, an acceptance test must be carried out. These tests check for leaks and the vibration and noise characteristics of the equipment. If deviations from the norm have been detected, repeated tests are carried out in full, taking into account the main characteristics (tightness, idle pressure, operation of unloading valves, absence of internal leaks). A quality certificate is obtained after all tests have been carried out. This certificate is a subsequent guarantee of the owner in case of unforeseen breakdowns in the future. It is quite difficult for the customer to control the repair process before the final tests.

For this reason, only those companies whose reliability is beyond doubt should be trusted with the repair of a hydraulic cylinder. Ideally, only those who manufacture such equipment and can guarantee a long service life of the hydraulic cylinder after repair and constant maintenance.
